- Acute Gastroenteritis (Including Food Poisoning)
- SYMPTOMS. Cramps, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
- CAUSES may be from food poisoning, too much alcohol intake, infections such
- as typhoid fever and amoebic dysentery, intestinal virus cathartics and drugs
- like aspirin. Food infection gastroenteritis usually appears from 6 to 48
- hours after ingestion of foods contaminated with salmonella bacteria. This
- may cause headache and muscle aches in addition to the other signs.
- Staphylococcus Toxin gastroenteritis, caused by processed meats, milk, fish,
- cream-filled pastries, custards, etc. It produces signs similar to the food
- infection gastroenteritis within 2 to 4 hours of ingestion.
- TREATMENT. Bed rest will probably be required.
- .After nausea and vomiting ceases, light fluids such as tea or broth.
- .If severe vomiting, medication or intravenous fluids may be prescribed.
