  1.              Acute Gastroenteritis (Including Food Poisoning)
  2. SYMPTOMS. Cramps, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
  3. CAUSES may be from food poisoning, too much alcohol intake, infections such
  4. as typhoid fever and amoebic dysentery, intestinal virus cathartics and drugs
  5. like aspirin. Food infection gastroenteritis usually appears from 6 to 48
  6. hours after ingestion of foods contaminated with salmonella bacteria. This
  7. may cause headache and muscle aches in addition to the other signs.
  8. Staphylococcus Toxin gastroenteritis, caused by processed meats, milk, fish,
  9. cream-filled pastries, custards, etc. It produces signs similar to the food
  10. infection gastroenteritis within 2 to 4 hours of ingestion.
  11. TREATMENT. Bed rest will probably be required.
  12. .After nausea and vomiting ceases, light fluids such as tea or broth.
  13. .If severe vomiting, medication or intravenous fluids may be prescribed.
